Batch Fee

A small fee (typically $0.20–$0.30) charged each time you close a batch (settle the day's transactions). Often hidden in the fine print.

Each time your terminal or POS submits the day's transactions for settlement, the processor charges a batch fee. At $0.25 per batch, batching once a day costs you ~$7.50/month — small but pure overhead. Batching multiple times a day (which some POS systems do automatically) compounds it.

What to check: whether your POS is batching once a day or more, whether the batch fee is itemized on your statement, and whether it can be waived. Most modern processors (Helcim, Stax, Dharma) don't charge a batch fee.
